Guitar Hero | The Crestock Design Contest 2007

Title: Guitar Hero

So this is my entry. As you (hopefully) can see, I used the guitar and male body from the stock photos. I tried a new, different style (for me) so this is somewhat an experimental piece. It's basically a digital painting made with an intuos3-A5, mixed up with some photos. The original size is 5906 x 8268 pixels (!) boy, my computer had serious problems with it! I sure would have liked an extra day to work on this one, but what can you do, right? Enjoy and good luck to you all!

Really like the lighting in it! And you seemed to mixed two styles very godd, some parts gives a photographic feelin' and the rest a more matte-paint look... really cool :-)

Most of it is drawn by hand with photos only as reference. In some places I mixed in the actual photos. And yes the drummer in the back is a drawing - I noticed that adding a lot of blur to a rather rough sketch makes gives it a rather photographic feeling as long as the colors and lighting are right..

no, I didn't use the tree-stock photo. First I had it as an overlay/multiply-layer on the guitar, but then I saw that some other entries had the same thing - just as you say, so I removed it. Then I tried having the tree on the drumset in the background, but it didn't turn out very well either.
I'm glad you asked - The graphic on the guitarr is actually from my old beloved Rock Star T-shirt =). I was so happy I could squeeze that one in! =)

its rather easy. If you want to try your own design you first ofcourse haveto draw one in ps or illustrator. A wacom would make it easier but it's not a must have. Put your tattoo on a rather light skincolor-background. Then you put this whole picture on the bodypart you want a tattoo on and choose multiply.. there you have it, use a mask to mask out areas that doesn't fit :)
