Great picture. Was there any editing in terms of the brightness of the light on the water?
By zygor on Wednesday, 2 May 2007 12:20 PM
Hi Mr Joy. That pic is as natural as it gets :) No changes. I only cropped it slightly to emphasize the image.

By jeneroso06 on Sunday, 13 May 2007 6:39 AM
and one thing I notice your photo is a little bit under expose
quite mistaken
By zygor on Sunday, 13 May 2007 6:08 PM
If you notice the picture properly, it's quite profound in terms of "the meaning of life". Have a look at the other photos and you will see it? Have you seen it yet? This photo is NATURAL. I took this when I saw what mother nature showed. The other photos were taken as a "Setup". ANYONE can setup those with a disposable camera, tweak the brightness, etc and viola. That's NOT art. The whole point of "meaning of life" is what affects and influences us that are not in our control.
So I should explain
By zygor on Sunday, 13 May 2007 6:20 PM
This photo was taken off the coast of Greece and I was wondering down the bay to look at the life that the Greeks call home. In the distance, I noticed a fishing vessel, and I found out that fishing was really difficult on that coast due to pollution and yet that's the only area they were allowed it fish in. So strange, why is this? Well, rules of endangered species do not allow them to wonder out. So they are stuck in that livelihood and somehow must survive. So what is the "meaning of life" for those people on that fishing vessel? Alas, a "ray of hope" came about with a light from the sky as if to say... things will get better, as long as you fight for your right to have meaning in your life. That's really special when mother nature is showing the meaning to those people.

I agree with u jeneroso, I should have explained and I hope my comment above captures what it meant to me when I saw it. And to you josepino, I also agree that any normal person can take that. That's what makes it so brilliant. Me, a normal guy got to see real meaning without any help from professionals or using any special eqiupment or setups. And are you also saying that if a "normal person" takes that photo, they don't deserve recognition? you said so yourself, this is art. That is not about who takes or how it was taken. It's about "what" was taken and the meaning beside it. I hope you see my viewpoint and understand what art really is about.

Hey! excellent photo! The story behind that photo really helped me see the plot. simple. natural. no actors. That's what meaning is all about. Its def the best photo here! You have my vote.
By roseb on Tuesday, 15 May 2007 11:33 AM
Fantastic man! The darkness of the image with the lonely light really brings out the imagery! Woooow..... It's as if you must search for the ship which really represents how difficult the life is for them. Beautiful!
Great

A little dark but great catch of subject and idea. I really see either this or "Distance between lovers" as winners. Good to see there are people with imagination that goes beyond a cute kid.

By catalin_bw on Tuesday, 15 May 2007 11:21 PM
sorry, but this pic is not very great. it is pale and has nothing to do with the topic. the editing was just plain wrong and the colurs are all washed up. it doesnt deserve its votes
By zygor on Wednesday, 16 May 2007 12:00 AM
Hey Catalin. Please read my comments in regards to the meaning of the photo and why I chose a dark natural image. And also please elaborate what you mean by "nothing to do with the topic"?
Clear Winner!!!!!

Juggy, I appreciate your vote. But I hope for the right reasons of art in my picture (please read my comments on it above) and not just for the baby photos.
By Alfredo on Thursday, 17 May 2007 11:24 AM
There's light alright, but life does not exist here dude. Does not convince me of whats the meaning of life in this photo, please lighten me up also.
By zygor on Thursday, 17 May 2007 11:26 AM
Good question Alfredo. I've put in my comments above (3 big paragraphs) ;). Posted 13 May.

This is unfortunate because today as well as last few days, I received a lot of votes from the public who are working in my company. Our company address points to you, the administrator, as one IP address. Is there no way around this? Is this decision final? This is truely unfortunate. If the competition did not want public votes from one specific place, then I understand.
By Dozhdbog on Saturday, 19 May 2007 2:19 AM
Zygor, it would've been a very good idea to have them vote from their homes rather than in your office building.
