HOPE is the new BLACK
"HOPE is the new BLACK"- This symbolizes the new "trend" in the thinking of the masses. Like a great fashion idea, HOPE is now a staple in the mental wardrobe of the people. This is why Mr. Obama resonates so strongly with everyone or mostly everyone. I believe Mr. Obama is the change the world needs NOW. He epitomizes the coming together of both races and political allegiance, (as show here in my piece, with the RED and BLUE people celebrating as one.) the likes of which I have never seen in my lifetime. It is just amazing! Amazing to see what Martin Luther King Jr. had DREAMT of and HOPED for, but did not live to see it come to fruition. He also HOPED for FREEDOM and PEACE which is depicted by the use of the birds, also in this piece. I may not even live to see the DREAM to it's complete fruition either, but at least I am here to bear witness to it's begin, and that alone gives me HOPE. Thank You All for listening and may GOD Bless you.

Racist Garbage!!
By TRUTH on Monday, 27 October 2008 2:21 PM
What kind of racist garbage is this! I can't believe that they would allow this on this site! Mr. Obama making into the White House should have NOTHING to do with his being half black! But you had to bring race into it didn't you! This country will NEVER be free from racism as long as the black community keeps acting "victimized" and feels that "white America" owes them something. How pathetic!

This is creative and I like it. If TRUTH be told, racism is everywhere, so get with it or ignore it.

This piece is well executed, love the way you've unified the 'colours' and the symbolism of the images. The subtle, almost unnoticeable contrast of the smooth image of Obama and the message against the roughened, distressed image in the background, an appropriate interpretation of the current state of the country.

TOP NOTCH work!
VERY TOUGH

I love the concept and I don't see anything racist about it whatsoever. People need to realize that the words "black" and "white" do not denote racism except where there is malicious racist intent. As a Society, we need to learn how to relax and not be so defensive and paranoid.
By Siddharta on Tuesday, 28 October 2008 8:29 AM
I don't see anything racist about it...
Stop bitchin'!

Good work

As I read these comments, I realize just how extra careful one should be in approaching this issue. Truth be told, Obama didn't get to where he is by suggesting in any shape or form that being black is an attribute to his abilities to lead america. He has been careful to portray himself as an american first. He cannot in any way afford to see "color". To suggest "Hope is the new black", in lieu of say, "Hope is the new America"; could be construed as leaning towards a particular race; possibly even expecting immediate changes in favor of "the new black". I am very sure your intentions were pure, however, words (no matter how simple) can be extremely powerful.

Nonetheless, the artwork is exceptional!
By Siddharta on Tuesday, 28 October 2008 3:22 PM
Maybe he was referring to the "new black" to suggest that hope is the new "trend"?
mad skillz
By phinn on Tuesday, 28 October 2008 3:44 PM

and for the ppl who think its a racist piece look harder... just lame comments from the untrained eyes!

Oh yeah, there's a lot (heated) talk about racism around here.
Remember the motto?

--->
the new black...
By betenoir on Wednesday, 29 October 2008 8:17 AM
saying something is "the new black" is not racist, it comes from fashion where black is considered a timeles staple, always in fashion....so, this year, red might be the new black, next year Blue might be the new black.

so, saying Hope is the new black is witty and clever, and not racist. Stop jumping to the conclusion that everything using that word is racist.

Profoundly conceptual in every sense and form possible, so much that I see it’s causing a controversy and thus being taken out of context.

Well it’s evident that the fight is on! Oh wait……. I see the type of people dealing with here… really don’t want there be any form of misconstruction so let me clear it up, people when I say ‘FIGHT’ I really don’t mean FIGHT in its LITERAL CONTEXT, fight there was used as a metaphor……. As it’s quite vivid that there are a lot of insular people out there, who cant seem to see beyond certain things e.g. ‘RACISM’…. But I say with great optimism and anticipation ‘HOPE IS THE NEW BLACK!’

Real trendy and ohhh soooo…. VOGUE! :-)
