RE: Photoshop Contest: Week 4
The lines does not come from hejzy origionaly but from the designer nopettern.com. He did the effect 3 years ago or something and have been seen more and moore since then even tho its been around too long now for my taste. Well he didnt actually "invent it" it was done even before but he really brought it up.
Good luck to you all.
Cheers

RE: Photoshop Contest: Week 4
Didn't the lines get to the picture first around in 2000? And mostly in web design? You know, this cool techy thing on the back with many lines exploding everywhere.
I don't know if it is such an issue whether it is lines or not. One could say "did you notice how much people used oversaturating and blurred masks in this competition?" :)
Anyhow, I hate to bring up my own work here (since I think it's lame, and no, i didnt even use lines) but just wanted to fix my comment on http://www.crestock.com/uploads/competition/entries/633021657414062500.jpg - that the creatures are made in lightwave by me only for the pic and are not any stock theft as one might think :D
+ i really dig these entries :

Too bad I can't vote. Cheers!

RE: Photoshop Contest: Week 4
There is so much discussion about stock theft and image theft that it almost makes me wish that I had placed the reciept numbers from when I purchased my stock art under my picture. Mine uses several pieces that I legitimately purchased through Crestock, and now I'm still somehow left feeling guilty because of it ;)

these are just my personal favorites not in order or something. I just like them cause they ain't got all the twirly or futuristic things in it, the lightwave design I respect aswell

RE: Photoshop Contest: Week 4
I have a question for those HONEST people who are voting in this contest: Are you voting based on the 1-10 system (10 obviously being excellent, 1 being terrible), or are you now voting RELATIVE to the low scores the cheaters are inflicting on everyone? For example, if you see what you feel is the winning entry and it has a 3.x, are you then voting for all the others relative to that score because you feel that entry should win?
"Well, looking at the scores, I guess a 4 is awesome, so I'll give this one a 2..." I might do the same if I was voting.
I just can't help but feel that the rigging has influenced the honest voters... :( What do you all think?

RE: Photoshop Contest: Week 4
Lazy Rund, I too like those page 10 images you mentioned, they are different from the others for sure. Although at this moment, I prettymuch like any image with no surfing salesman or twirling rainbow-coloured lines...:)
My absolute favorite at the moment is that whimsical bunny on page 5...I feell like giggling like a little girl when I look at it...:D Maby its the sleep deprivation caused by this competition that's causing it, I don't know...

No clue whatsoever, I monitored my own post closely through round 4, at first to get an idea of how often I was receiving "1's" . . . as in 5 of my first 6, and the 6 straight "1's" I just received overnight, dropping me 3 full points . . . but also noticed, at times, in and around 25+ votes, I would jump a full point with a couple of votes, so I think that there are some regularl voters out there trying to make up for their favorite(s) being in the scoring cellar (not that my entry is necessarily anyone's favorite). Were I able to vote, there are not doubt a handful of entries that should be in the 8-10 range, and are stuck around 2-3, a product, no doubt, of warring factions of 1's and 10's, I am a big fan of 3 other entries, in particular, all of which are having their legs cut out from under them in the public voting forum. Again, no issue here in that CS staff will sort that out, but just a shame as there is some real "art" in here that competitors are obviously scared of, and are, subsequently, possibly influencing others to vote low or, on the other end of the spectrum, vote too high. My only fear in this scenrio is that those high votes get dropped when, indeed, they were not a matter of rigging, but rather, a voter looking at Entry A and saying "No way is that a 2! It's at least a 5, and I'm giving it a 10 to bring it closer to where it should be." All told, I can't even worry about any of this anymore. CS has it sorted out, I feel I submitted something unique in comparison to all of the other entries, so if someone wants to go in and give me 1's over and over, I'll take it as a compliment. And if someone likes my piece enough to actually inflate their rating to make up for all those ones, I'll also take that as a compliment. Win, place, or no-show . . . it's out of my hands . . . with that, I'm heading home from work. Goodnight. -- Stu

RE: Photoshop Contest: Week 4
Well said, Stu. In the end, if you've done something you're proud of, than who cares about the score? I think a lot of people (myself included) have taken this contest way to seriously and have forgotten about the reason we design/illustrate to begin with: because it's what we love to do.

Crestock (12/15/2006)
Posted by anya: Angeldrone. No external images were used. Shirt and pants of a "businessman" were used on background and "jet flashes" or whatever. Sand was used for the background also. Ostrich's beak and eyes were used for the head of this flying angels. Hotshue and some other parts of the camera were used for the wings and head also. The ground was used for energyboost behind the first angel. Thats about it. .
this picture must be at that list

This is so good, so why does it have so few votes? Doesn't seem right - should be in top 10 anyway.

RE: Photoshop Contest: Week 4
There are a few pieces on that dudes list that shouldn't be, and a few that aren't on his list that should be.
That is why he is not a judge.

I disagree with well over half your selections - goes to show how much tastes can vary. To me, some are just pretty, but don't draw me in. I want art to make me feel something. I want to laugh or cry or connect somehow with the scene.

I still can't get over that in week 3 Ritalin007's entry wasn't among even the runners up (http://www.crestock.com/forum/FindPost1550.aspx) the humour was lost on people I suppose.

I think, if you ever do this in the future, you should some very clear guidelines about using existing artwork. My intepretation was that our work for this contest should be mostly a new piece. An interesting image from 2003 Anyhow, thanks very much for the fun challenge! (How about a week 5? :))

Thanks, it's appreciated. I thought it would get a bit more reaction as well, but hey, there were some pretty outstanding pieces and ultimately it's up to the judges. I figured something a bit on the parody side and simple would catch attention. You know what though, I'm just glad to be challenged and that someone thought it was funny.

Yeah, I noticed this cheater guy too. He just put up some stock from this challenge on this old image of his, what a shame! Doesn't he have any imagination at all?
here you can see the date too: http://forums.cgsociety.org/showthread.php?t=224289
03-26-2005, 08:23 PM long time ago isn't?
I hope the judges keep an eye on this situation and disqualify anyone who haven't done any effort like the major part of us did inspiring ourselves originally with the stock they gave.
Would VERY unfair if he stays on the contest :(
*sigh*

You called me a cheater, are you sure?
You must be so desperate...
That artwork never entered any competition and it's based on a photo of my wife. I mixed it with crestock photos (ostrich hair as grass, ground and desert textures) because it fits perfectly.
C'mon...
Don't play God kids, just let judges do their work.
