Attention: New Forum in Progress

Unfortunately, our current forum software is causing us some problems, so we have decided to turn off the posting capabilities - for now. We decided to develop our very own forum to get it just right - and it will be up and running again towards the end of May.

We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Until the new forum is available, you can still browse and read the old forums, but unfortunately not post new messages.

Thank you so much for your patience!

Metadata not Uploaded
Posted in Newbies on 4. July 2007 by PhoTobes

I've uploaded my first submission of just 5 images. These same image files have been uploaded to multiple Microstock sites and all of them have uploaded the metadata with each image. Crestock did not pull the data out of the file. It says that I have 0 images uploaded with metadata and 5 without. Is there a reason this has happened like this and a way for it to be corrected? I certainly can't consider uploading a lot of images if I have to add the details to every image again.

Please let me know what you think the problem could be.

Thank you.
Tobin Rogers

RE: Metadata not Uploaded
Hi Tobin,

That sounds pretty frustrating. We don't have any previous feedback to indicate that there is a problem with our metadata extraction, but we would certainly like to hear from anyone who has had similar problems.

A good start would be if you could tell us what application you used to add the data to your files, as there are some differences in how applications deal with metadata, then perhaps we can get to the bottom of this problem.

RE: Metadata not Uploaded
If I am editing metadata to add keywords using Adobe Bridge will crestock extract that as my search keywords or will I have to add these manually at upload time?

RE: Metadata not Uploaded
Not sure, I'm still having problems with the files I'm sending. I'm using Lightroom and am working with someone at Crestock right now to try and find the problem. My suggestion is to do a test upload with a couple files and see that they work before you upload a hole batch of images.

Your keywords will be automatically extracted from the files – just make sure that you have added between 10 and 50 keywords, if any images have less the files will be sent to the 'describe' folder of the upload system where a few more can be added.

Make sure that all the files have titles and descriptions too, then there should be no problems :)

I also uploaded images processed with Lightroom. I had keyworded them and given them titles and descriptions in Lightroom, exported them as JPEGs and uploaded them. When I viewed them, I had to do it all over again. Very time consuming.

I also looked at them in Adobe bridge before the upload and the keywords were there.. Any more ideas about this?

RE: Metadata not Uploaded
Hello!  I'm new here and LOVE this place so far lol.  I just did my initial upload, and I noticed a metadata issue too.  It did great, except for like the first image of my batch, it wouldn't read it all.  All the others were fine.  It did that for two batches.  I ended up just reuploading those images one at a time and it did fine.

I use Irfanview.  I'm on a quest now to find a free meta data editor that doesn't use the Windows Net Framework, which for some reason my computer balks at when trying to install.  I have Photoshop, but I don't know if batch editing of meta data is available in it, and I LOVE that capablity with Irfanview.

GREAT site!

RE: Metadata not Uploaded
Hi, I am also a Newbie,
I noticed that the metadata from Aperture isn't coming through. I have to reload the keywords once my photos are loaded up to Crestock. However, what I do, is go into aperture and cut and paste the original keywords onto the photos that have been uploaded to Crestock. If Adobe Bridge, Lightroom and Aperture are having problems with keywords, what is a good alternative?:) I am new to stock images, but so far I really appreciate the standard of quality Crestock is promoting. I would rather have some photographs rejected than have some problem photos in my Creststock portfolio.
