Unfortunately, our current forum software is causing us some problems, so we have decided to turn off the posting capabilities - for now. We decided to develop our very own forum to get it just right - and it will be up and running again towards the end of August.

Why are the payouts so low?
Posted in Crestock discussion on 20. February 2008 by ElleBell

I just noticed that my images are being sold for between $5 and $15 dollars every time they are downloaded. Not to complain, but isn't that slightly high considering I have only made between $.25 to $2.00 per image downloaded? Am I missing something or is there a ridiculous margin here?

RE: Why are the payouts so low?
Hi and welcome to crestock!
This site also has a quite popular subscription model. From these sales you do get 0.25 $ per download.

You might want to read the following contributor information:

Hope that answers your questions.

Yes, and its also worth mentioning that your commission on regular sales ($5,$10,$15) starts at a low 20%, but as soon as you've reached 100 downloads it gets promoted to a 30% commission.

All the best,

I understand the subscription model. Thanks to both of you for taking the time to reply, I appreciate it. I guess it's just the fact that Crestock makes, then, a 70% to 80% commission that gave me a WOW moment. I know how expensive it can be to run a business, because I own one. But Crestock really must be making a killing off the photo sales. I guess I was just wondering if there was a reason that Crestock does not share more of the profit margin that it must be making with it's contributors.? More curiosity than complaint.

RE: Why are the payouts so low?
Being just an inspector (but also a buyer) and a businessman, I have no insight to the financial side of Crestock. But looking at subscription sales and thinking about people like me who download the maximum volume of pictures during their subscription time, there isn“t really too much to earn for Crestock. And if you add marketing, paying us greedy reviewers (well, not really greedy) and several other expenses, I am not too sure if there is a revenue at all for the moment. But businesses are not built to bring a revenue in the first few years.

Dear nataq,

I do not completely agree when you said:

"But businesses are not built to bring a revenue in the first few years."

If I start my own business, for sure I do not pretend to have an high profit at the beginning, but enough to allow me to live or at least to partially live with it.

Instead, societies with enough revenue/profit can start a new business and support it with the revenue of their "already existing" businesses, hoping that soon their new business will be profitable enough.

When you start a business you have to carefully plan it in order to avoid to fail even before starting.

Anyway, after my experience what Crestock to the photographers is not so different from what the other stock agencies pay :).

Best wishes,
Michael

OMG!! 20% commission...

I registered on Crestock 2-3 years ago and I think on that day it was 50% or even 80% commission.
