Attention: New Forum in Progress

Unfortunately, our current forum software is causing us some problems, so we have decided to turn off the posting capabilities - for now. We decided to develop our very own forum to get it just right - and it will be up and running again towards the end of May.

We're sorry for any inconvenience this may cause. Until the new forum is available, you can still browse and read the old forums, but unfortunately not post new messages.

Thank you so much for your patience!

Model Release
Posted in Digital Photography on 13. September 2006 by ablyth

I understand the legality and certain requirements that some countries and localities have of the photographed, the publisher and the photographer. However, model releases aren't always practical nor possible to get. But, what of crowd shots, and times when pictures are taken with a long lens and the subjects are mixed in a crowd? This picture was taken from a bridge, and the crowd around these people were well over a few thousand strong (it was a cultural event). At what point can we accept that a model release is not required?

RE: Model Release
(I see this has become a hot topic) ;)

Anyhow, what about celebrities (and others in the popular media)? Would I not be able to upload pictures of sumo wrestlers (in action, in a tournament) because I don't have a model release? (and probably can't get one). Mind you, I am NOT in any sort of paparazzi pack, and never intend to be in one, just be a member of the audience.
