I'd like to point out to those who are new to microstock that selling a large photo for 25 cents is not something you will only see at crestock. All the major microstock agencies have subscription plans and they pay out 25-30 cents on those sales. Its something you will experience no matter what agency you sell through. We may not like it but it is an industry standard so if you want to make money in this business a photographer just has to get over the ego side of it and keep uploading.

Not true, there isn't such thing as subscriptions in the biggest microstock agency (I won't tell the name of it, but probably everybody knows it). There is something called "dollar bin" but it's not the same as subscription.
The other thing I would like to have in Crestock is possibility to deactivate my images.

When I first started with microstock two years ago, I was shocked at how much a photographer received for each sale - I told my co-worker, who introduced me to microstock, that there's no way I was going to let my photos sell for 20 cents!! My artistic ego wouldn't allow my brilliant images to be gobbled up for a mere pittance - but I relented and uploaded my first few after browsing through the incredible images on these sites and realizing that my pictures weren't works of art, and that I was one of thousands of talented photographers struggling to get their work in the public eye. After the first few months and a small portfolio of maybe a hundred images, I was frustrated and jaded, but I persisted and endured the rejections and pathetic 20 and 30 cent downloads. Now I make my living off of my mediocre images - my tourist images, my isolated stuff from around my home, my friends I use as "professional models"... I don't complain about 25 cents per download anymore, because it all adds up to a decent wage and a way of life that I adore.

I've always wondered why contributors want to delete their portfolios off these sites since it is completely free to have your images for sale here. It doesn't cost a thing to have thousands of potential buyers viewing your images for years to come!
On one site that I have been uploading to, it's been almost two years and just now I am about to get my first payout of 100 dollars - that's 100 dollars more then I would have then if I deleted my account after a couple of months of frustration and tiny sales. It all adds up.

Crestock isn't just subscription - I've had many sales of $4.50, $3.00, $1.50 per image, and that is higher then many of the stock sites out there. Last month was my best month ever of Crestock - almost three times the sales of the previous month with only 370 images in my Crestock portfolio. I follow my statistics very closely and every month my sales rise and rise - it's persistence and patience that makes the Microstock thing work.

I can only second your opinion. I myself started into microstock not even a year ago, and I´m very close to make a living solely from it.

With microstock you have far more potential customers, than with any other possibility.
Now companies start buying images for their everyday powerpoint presentation, private people for their christmas greeting cards, and so on. And still the system isn´t too well known, especially for non-designers and photographers. There is much more to come.

Crestock really makes huge efforts to get a great share of the market. No doubt: the people that are here from the beginning will have much better sales in the longrun, than newcomers. Because many people search for "most downloads". No secret - if you are longer here, you statistically have more downloads than a newcomer.
So why delete your account if you allready did all the work.

And if it is for rejections, and all that: we inspectors are not the bad guys. We would really enjoy to accept one image after the other, but we can´t - we have to build a quality stock. And hey guys and girls, when you submit to a stock agency, you are at least getting a semipro (because you want money for your work) - and you have to compete with the pros like yuri arcurs, andresr and all other well known artists. So you need to provide quality. With our rejection reasons we give you advice for your work. Take it seriously, work on your technique and you will get your share of the cake.

I only joined this site yesterday, so I'm a real newbie! :)

I wish I hadn't come across this thread.....I sincerely hope it's nowhere near as bad as some people are portraying that is here! :) Is everybody leaving? :)

I've spent around 18 hours uploading 320 photos onto the site, and another five or six hours adding the keywords and descriptions. After reading this thread, I'm beginning to worry that I may have wasted my time. :) Only time will tell. :) I'll give it a go...see how many are approved, then decide. :)

I upload to eleven other sites....including the major microstock sites. Last month, I had nearly 600 downloads on one site, which, also, only pays 25 cents per image. However, around 98% of the photos that I submit there are accepted. This has allowed me to achieve a sizeable portfolio of images and, as a result, this gives me a better chance of achieving acceptable monthly sales.

After reading the posts in this forum, it appears that it is very difficult to get your photos passed. If that's the case, I think it would be difficult to establish a large portfolio in a reasonable period of time, hence making it difficult to achieve a decent level of sales.

As I said, only time will tell. :)

Hello,

welcome to Crestock :).

I am also a newbie both to Crestock and to the (digital) photography (despite a couple of years with a Nikon F90x).

Personally, I find Crestock very good. My acceptation ratio is may be not very high now, but I am just a beginner :).

Anyway, all my questions related to the website and rejections reasons got answered until now. Good service(s) and also you can learn from your errors. That's good for me :).

I have also "discovered" this thread today and felt a bit surprised by the posts of the different users. Anyway, after my experience, each microstock agency has users of like it, others who are more or less neutral and some who are simply unhappy. Probably it is difficult to make everyone happy and fully satisfied...

As you said, only time will tell :).

All the best

Ok, I can see both sides of this. I see the Crestock inspectors defending the site and suggesting longevity and more uploading is important. I see people frustrated at low payouts, rejections or just lack of downloads. To those who said why delete your account when it's free to just leave it up I'd say this. I am just getting back into photography. I am very much an amateur, but I'm trying to learn and improve my pictures. This time around I'm willing to stick it at as I believe I am improving and can sell more in future (I've sold only 1 picture here). However, it is not impossible that I will never reach the payout amount. While there are lots of talented photographers here who reach this payout amount, and many who do frequently and even earn a living solely from selling stock, there are many more still who are just like me. Didn't it ever occur to you (of course, it did) that members who stay a long time yet still only reach a handful of dollars in sales resent the fact that Crestock get their share of the sales instantly while they, the members, the artists, the owners of the work, may never receive anything. A cynic might suggest that a large part of what oils the microstock machine is the amateur photographer who sells just enough, but not too much, so never receiving a cent, while the site takes its share.

Now, nobody's been forced to sign up. Everybody should know the deal before they upload pictures to a site like this. Just sharing an idea as to why someone might pull their pictures rather than have their work stay here and make more money for someone else. I think some get downhearted, or maybe are realistic about their potential to sell images of the quality they can produce, and realise that while they may sell more in future they may only make say $10 or $20 and not enough to get paid. Why give that money to Crestock? People want control over their work and may not fancy doing the altruistic, charitable thing they apparently should.

I wonder how many people are good enough to sell a few images here. I bet it's not a small number. Just sayin'. A thousand people who give up and forget their accounts rather than request they be deleted could make a pretty penny when combined over a period of 5-10 years.

p.s. I don't find Crestock's image reviewing time to be overly long. It's a lot better than another site I frequent (up to a week sometimes), but not nearly as good as another, green logo-d site (with similarly strict standards) who sometimes approve the very same day and always within 48 hours. Still not bad at all, and the new upload system works very well. Thank you!

Forgive me for the long-***, pedantic, repetitive post. I wasn't as succinct as I might have been, lol.

And I want to say that is not easy to take a god picture.

But is mor harder to create a god 3d picture. I work in 3d softwers and I have to drown ewery single thing wiewed on picture in 3 dimensions . That is not easy . And I cant do more then 2-3 pictures daily . Photografers can do 100 pictures daily. I want to say that is not fair . 3d pictures shoud be in defrent category and treated with more respect and controled and regected by someone who know to work in 3d software.

People want to see totly realistic 3d picture , that is inposible . Even Holiwod cant do that.

Hi,

I contacted help desk over a week ago requesting to have all my images deactivated and have heard nothing.

I think he quality of images on Crestock is stunning and there is very little trash that seems to have slipped past the inspectors compared to other sites.  However the royalties here aren't as much as what I would get as an exclusive elsewhere.

So for now I would like to say farewell to my images.  It hasn't been quite as exciting as I'd hoped. :)

Looking at the forum, much to my dismay, a lot of members get a lot of rejections with their submitted photos. And it is just common to compare their preformance here at crestock with other websites. So its just normal that they want to close their account.

Hi Friends

Can anyone help me? I want to be exclusive member on other agency. I have already send many e-mails again and again each with the gap of 3 to 5 days in between but not received any reply. I simply request with my full respect for crestock.com & Judge Ross in the presence of all of you if there is justice in Crestock then as per my consent Crestock should stop selling and showing my images. Please help me my friends by your great advices.

Regards for all of you, Gawrav

I would like to cancel and deactivate my images here as well.  I want to focus my pursuits, and after the payment issues here, I am less than satisfied.  I've mailed helpdesk as well.

I would like mine closed too.  I knew I shouldn't have started here.  Evaluation of images are taking over a week and images that have been rejected sell very well on other sites.

So please remove my account.

Thanks.
