I have just tried to upload some of my photos ( examples here: http://b-jones.deviantart.com/art/Sea-as-a-Mist-Update-121520112  http://b-jones.deviantart.com/art/Sun-Setting-Through-the-Trees-120168164 and http://b-jones.deviantart.com/art/Carpet-of-Bluebells-120874546)

All of my shots were rejected, most of them with the reason being "Artifacts / Compressions flaws"

Can somebody tell me what this means? I can't see what I've done wrong :(

Edit:

Also, if there isn't already (I looked and couldnt find one), I think it would be valuable to the community for Crestock to post a complete list of their reasons for rejections, with photo examples so we can *see* the problem, and possibly even some explanations on how to correct them? This would cut down dramatically on the amount of time the admins need to spend on this forum explaining to each person why their shots were rejected.

Regards

Ben

Hi Ben,

It seems that most of the images in question are taken with a Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ7? Compact cameras, even top-of-the-range ones, are just not very well suited for capturing stock quality image files, particularly if they can't record in RAW format (not sure if this model can).

There's some noise/grain in the images - caused by the smaller-than-SLR sensor, combined with jpeg compression artifacts that are probably mainly caused by the in-camera file compression, possibly exacerbated by editing and re-saving of the files.

Here are two detailed crops, the first at 200% size shows the typical pattern caused by excessive jpeg compression, in the second example, at 100% size, sensor noise is the main technical issue.

See this post for further info on jpeg artifacts and how to avoid them. As you suggest, we'll try to tidy up some of this information and present it in a more accessible and easy to find form.

We hope that helps.

Hi,

I did learn something too, but there are some images that i uploaded with a good DSLR
and they got rejected for "Artifacts / Compression".

I do not get it.
Look at my photo here: http://www.atombender.de/Gold%20Kiwi%20(4%20of%205).jpg

This is my workflow:

1) RAW shooting
2) Export to 100% JPEG from Lightroom 2

What am I doing wrong?

Thank you in advance

Oliver

I've done it all by the book, shoot RAW edit in TIFF, save at highest quality jpeg and the crestock team is still rejecting most of my images because of compression flaws.  Why????????

Excellent pictures! Try to upload them elsewhere, where they are less picky and pay more respect to the photographers. 123RF will welcome you and your compact camera:)
