Salt worker women, or Agarias,children play during lunch break at a school in the Little Rann of Kutch, near Kharaghodha Taluka, about 120 kilometers (75 miles) northwest of Ahmadabad, capital of Indian state of Gujarat, Agarias have no access to safe drinking water, health services, education and residential facilities, reports say, and women have to walk about 15 kilometers (9 miles) to fetch firewood. Migrant salt workers of the Little Rann of Kutch, a vast area of arid land, manufacture 70 percent of India's table salt.
